I do not have any experience with hardware control kits/platforms, but I recently came across information about one called Espruino that might be of interest to users of this forum that are interested in connecting such hardware to their PC/Tablet/Smartphone via a USB port ... and using NeoBook Applications to control this hardware.
From their website ...
Espruino plugs in to your computer by USB and appears as a serial device. No drivers, and no special software.
Javascript on a USB stick
Everything on one chip. This makes it affordable, reliable, and power efficient - allowing it to run for years on a battery.

It is javascript and learning an other language is not what im, waiting for
On the hardware side its like arduino and raspberry, nice and versatile, but if you want reliable hardware for controlling e.g. relay output and pulse counting, and if you want some protection against emp on long lines I fear better buffering is required.
But for someone at ease with javascript and building hardware its a very nice small development

You know, I see what Dave@Neosoftware is doing with the HTML5 product is partially a NB Script ---> Javascript converter.
I'm hoping to see how to use NB experience more fully in the Javascript world as it is the dominant language.
